HFS Goes “Over the Edge” to Support Special Olympics Hawai‘i
Honolulu Freight Service Customer Service Supervisor Kai Pili-Mahoe went “Over the Edge” with nearly 100 other participants on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2024, to support Special Olympics Hawai‘i.
Kai rappelled 40 stories – or nearly 400 feet – down the side of the Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort & Spa during the 15th-annual Special Olympics Hawai‘i Over the Edge fundraiser. She said she enjoyed the panoramic views of Waikiki in the approximately 10-15 minutes it took to reach the ground.
“I was so excited for the thrill,” said Kai, who lives in Kailua and started with HFS customer service in Honolulu nearly 5 years ago. “I would definitely do it again.”
Kai raised $300 for Special Olympics Hawai‘i during the event, which raised a total of $179,000. She follows in the footsteps of HFS Honolulu team member Jennifer Martin, who participated last year. HFS also donated shipping services for the event.
Since 2009, Over the Edge has raised more than $1.8 million for Special Olympics Hawaii athletes and programs. The nonprofit organization was founded in 1968, today serving more than 6,000 athletes and unified partners on every island in Hawaii. Learn more about Special Olympics Hawai‘i at sohawaii.org.
