Remembering Mike Beidleman

BY IN Press On 15-12-2023

It is with heavy hearts that we announce that earlier this year we lost our former HFS President and CEO, Mike Beidleman.  In the mid-1960s, Mike continued a second generation of Honolulu Freight Service family leadership, while Tom, Mike’s brother, took over the Guam affiliate.  Following their father, Paul Beidleman, who founded the company in 1936, both sons lead with the same philosophy as their dad.

Mike had an infectious sense of humor and was always easy to get along with, quick to listen and slow to judge. He loved the industry and had two guiding philosophies: Work hard every day and treat employees like ohana.  As importantly, our customers were central to everything he did.

While graduating from the University of New Mexico, getting married and starting a family, Mike worked at the loading docks in Los Angeles. From there he rose through the ranks at HFS. As President and CEO, Mike oversaw the opening of HFS terminals in Stockton, Calif., and the company’s growth into the Pacific Northwest with our Seattle, Wash., and Portland, Ore., terminals. He also expanded our trucking operations into Hawaii to ensure HFS standards of quality from start to finish.

Today Mike’s sons, Jim and Mark Beidleman, are proud to continue the third generation of HFS family leadership, with Jim serving as President and CEO, and Mark as Vice President.

We celebrate Mike’s life and legacy and deep respect for not only our employees but our customers as well. As he would always say, “Be kind to others” and “Toodles”.
